Honestly, there is almost nothing worse than having a bad day at work and the entire situation being intensified by an aching in your feet, legs and back. We’ve learned that jobs requiring long periods of standing, walking and possibly running (depending on the day) also require a pair of great shoes. As a healthcare professional, comfortable shoes are a serious part of your uniform and not one that should be overlooked.
Now, I have never been a nurse, but spending a few years in food service, I can definitely say I that my feet aches so bad it felt like needles poking me with every step. I’ve definitely worn through my fair share of cheap, poorly constructed shoes because I thought they were “cute” or “It’ll work for now”. I knew my feet and lower back needed to be saved and I bought my first pair of Dansko Professional Clogs and never looked back.
Arch Support is a big one for me. Whether you have high, normal or low arches, it is extremely important you buy a shoe that offers proper arch support and fit. If you suffer from arch pain or have a foot condition try a shoe like the Anywear Last But Dot Least Zone Clog with a removable insoles. This clog has pronounced arch support, are non-slip and have a removable cushioned insole.
Durability is a must. If your shoes are going to stand up against the rigorous duties of nursing, they must be durable. Athletic shoes like the Asics Noosa Athletic Shoe which are perfect for high energy performance or long hours on your feet. Or, choose the Birkenstock Gizeh Sandal when you want support but also a sandal that will last nearly forever!
You have to have good traction. The medical field environment brings with it the potential for wet, slippery floors. So as a nurse it’s very important you wear shoes that have good traction on both wet and dry floors. I love the Anywear Angel Slip Resistant Clog, this clogfeatures a durable slip Resistant outsole built tough enough to withstand the wear and tear.
Go for something lightweight. Wearing lightweight shoes can help reduce muscle strain while making it easier to move quickly. My favorite are the are the Grey’s Anatomy Softwalk Meredith Box Shoe’s because they are lightweight, flexible and slip resistant.
Last but not least find a color or print that fits your style. The majority of the medical fields now require each department to wear a certain color scrub, which is super boring… So why not spice up your outfit a little and show off some of your personal style with a fun pair of shoes. We have a large selection of bright colors we also carry quite a few prints including the fun Dansko Stapled Pro Speckled Patent Clog featuring a multi-color paint spatter print and the Anywear Angel Breast Cancer Awareness Caring Is Love Slip Resistant Clog supporting Breast Cancer Awareness.
